Jazz Band Elearning 12/1
GOOGLE MEET link. Our meeting time is 12:15 - 12:37. Your presence at the Google Meet is required for attendance in class.
For your assignment today you will listen to a professional recording of "Funky Old St. Nick." Using yhe recording and your knowledge of the piece you will answer questions analyzing the piece. We have only two more weeks to Christmas Spectacular. Use this time wisely so we can have the best performance possible!
**Alternative assignment: Any student may record and send either through band app or some other means a recording of themselves practicing for 30 minutes on Christmas spectacular music, instead of submitting the written assignment. This video must be submitted by the start of class tomorrow to be considered for full points!**
Funky Old St. Nick
1 - Describe the style and articulations in the first 7 measures. How does the band perform notes before a rest?
2 - Funk does NOT have swung eighth notes, but this piece still has a lot of style that makes it funky. What are the musicians doing to make the piece a funk style (think articulations)?
3 - At the solo section, what instruments do you hear playing the solo? How do they handle the backgrounds?
4 - the bass line and trombones have a lot of notes in the piece, how do we work to get that clean and clear through our rehearsals?
5 - decribe the last note? How long is it? How is it different form the other notes in the piece? Be specific.
